POLICY ON RESPITE CARE

AIM OF THE POLICY

This policy is intended to set out the values, principles and policies underpinning this home’s approach to respite placements and admission.

POLICY STATEMENT

This home accepts respite placements but such placements:

  • Do not imply the right for a service user to stay in the home longer than the original terms agreed
  • Are subject to availability

All service users placed in the home as an emergency measure should be fully assessed before admission.

The home reserves the right to refuse admission or placement to any service user whom it feels would be inappropriately placed in the home, or for whom the home does not have the required skills, resources or provision.

POLICY ON EMERGENCY PLACEMENTS

This home accepts emergency placements in the event of emergency admissions the home will pursue the following policies:

Introductory visits the service users placed in an emergency should be fully assessed before admission

The service user to be relocated if the care provided is not appropriate to their care/support needs.

Respite/emergency/ short-term placements and those in long term placements, should occupy the same premises including communal day space, facilities and equipment, so long as benefits for both groups can be demonstrated.

This home accepts new clients on the basis that all information relating to care needs and background history is accurate.

Point House reserves the right to give 24 – 48 hours notice during the trial period to any new client whom is placed with us and has needs that we are unable to meet that we were not aware of prior to admission. This is to protect both current service users and new clients who may be at risk if we are unable to meet their need
